About Us We are often asked how we found this venerable old house. My answer is, "We didn't find the house, it was looking for someone stupid and found us"! When in 2006 the desire for change became great, the plan was not yet made to give up everything completely in Munich, but the actual thought was, we would buy somewhere (Madeira, Styria) - Carinthia was not yet in our planning at all - rebuild a small house and rent it out to holiday guests. While searching the internet for suitable properties, we kept coming across the photo of the Gritschacher guesthouse. So at some point the decision was made to go to Carinthia - as we all know, it doesn't cost anything to have a look. It was love at first sight. Until that moment we had no exact idea where our new home was, but from that moment on we knew. But it was to take another 4 years until we were finally able to call the venerable house our own in 2010. Since then we have been renovating and rebuilding. In 2011, the first two guest rooms on the first floor were finished and in the following years the other rooms on the second floor. What is there to tell about us personally. I, Ulla, was born in Munich-Pasing in 1963, trained as a tax assistant and qualified executive secretary. I worked in my father's company, which owned a large, renowned waterproofing and renovation company in Munich, as personnel manager and executive secretary and also ran a small accounting service. My better half Walter was born in 1952 in St. Pölten. (Lower Austria). After his apprenticeship years at the renowned Grandhotel Pittner in St. Pölten and his attendance at the hotel management school in Bad Hofgastein, he began his travelling years at home and abroad, including on the MS Europa. After returning to the city of Salzburg, he ran the Muntenhammer restaurant in Salzburg. After 20 years, however, the fun and love of gastronomy was lost and a 20-year sabbatical in Munich followed. During this time out we got to know and love each other. The death of my father made it clear to us that we had to live our dream. So we dedicated ourselves to this new task in life and fulfilled a childhood dream by buying the Gasthof Gritschacher. I, a small but fine private room rental, and my husband, to revive an old inn with tradition and to reinterpret the dishes from all over the world and the K&K monarchy with exclusively local products.

History of the house Michael Gritschacher took over a farm, a small shop and an even smaller inn from his father. The inn was first mentioned in 1870 and slowly expanded during the construction of the railway through the Drautal as the construction workers kept coming to eat. At that time, the inn, the small shop and the stable were, although spatially separated from each other, housed in a larger farmhouse. It was not until 1880, when agriculture expanded significantly, that the large stable was built next to the farmhouse. The inn was built in its current stately form in 1885. One of the most famous owners of our inn was a National CouncilorJosef Gritzacher (1883 – 1963), among others. Co-founder of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) in Carinthia. A lot of the celebrities of the time came through him, such as: b.Julius Raab (Federal Chancellor) as wellLeopold Figl (Federal Chancellor) in the Gasthof Gritschacher. The nearnessRoman town of Teurnia has also left its mark on our house. A marble slab is embedded above the entrance door, which shows two arcades in relief. It was originally the narrow side of a Roman sarcophagus. As well as in the garden above the staircase there is the remains of an old Roman column The house name “STANER” is derived from the former “Steinerhube” property. In 1910, Marianne Gritschacher discovered a machine for pasta production while traveling to Bad Reichenhall to visit her cousin. Very impressed by this machine, she decided to purchase one of these machines in order to produce her own pasta in wood in St. Peter. A short time later, the “factory house” was built opposite the inn. In 1925, a real factory building was built in place of the “factory house”, which is now home to a renowned beekeeping business. “Gritschacher Eiernudeln” was produced until the end of the 1980s.

- The Magic of Christmas
The magic of Christmas!Once upon a time in a small, snowy village, the lights of Christmas decorations sparkled in the cold winter air. People were preparing for the upcoming holiday, and anticipation was in the air. In this village lived two best friends, Mia and Lukas. They had known each other since childhood and had experienced countless adventures together. As Christmas approached, Mia noticed that Lukas seemed sad lately. He had lost his beloved grandmother, and the festive spirit didn't seem to reach him. Mia wanted to help him find the joy of Christmas again. She had an idea. One evening, as the snow was quietly falling, Mia invited Lukas to take a walk through the village. They walked to the large, festively decorated Christmas tree in the village square. The lights shone brightly, and people sang Christmas carols. Mia took Lukas by the hand and led him to a small stand where they could buy hot chocolate and cookies. "Do you know what Christmas really means?" Mia asked as she took a sip of her hot chocolate. "It's not just about presents or the holiday meal. It's about the people we love and the memories we share." Lukas looked at her and nodded. "I miss my grandmother very much. She always baked the best cookies and told us stories." Mia smiled gently. "Let's keep her stories alive. We can bake cookies together and decorate them in her memory. And we can tell the stories she taught us." In the following days, Mia and Lukas spent a lot of time in the kitchen. They baked cookies, laughed and told each other stories. While they decorated the cookies, Lukas felt the sadness slowly fall away from him. The memories of his grandmother became part of the festive joy . On Christmas Eve, they organized a small celebration at Mia's house. They invited their friends and shared the cookies they had baked. During the evening, they told the stories of Lukas' grandmother, and everyone listened spellbound. The warmth of friendship and the love they shared filled the room.As the night drew to a close and the first stars twinkled in the sky, Lukas knew he was not alone. The love of his friends and the memories of his grandmother would always be with him. Christmas was not just a celebration, but a moment when people's hearts came together. And so Mia and Lukas celebrated not only Christmas, but also the unbreakable bond of friendship that can bring light and joy even in the most difficult times.
