Our dream realization Landhaus Gritschacher: Trip from Munich to Carinthia
"The house found us, not us." Thus begins the story of our journey to Landhaus Gritschacher.
In 2006, when the desire for change was born in us, we had no plans to completely give up life in Munich. Instead, we dreamed of buying a small house somewhere - perhaps in Madeira or Styria - lovingly renovating it and renting it out to holiday guests. Carinthia was not yet on our radar at the moment.
But during our online search, we kept coming across a picture of a charming inn - Gasthaus Gritschacher. This picture piqued our curiosity and eventually led us to Carinthia. And as they say: "It costs nothing to look for."
It was love at first sight. From that moment we knew: This is our new home. However, it took another four years before we finally held the keys to our dream home in 2010.
Since then, we have been tirelessly reconstructing and rebuilding. In 2011 we were able to complete the first two guest rooms on the first floor and in the following years more rooms were added on the second floor.
But who are we?
I, Ulla, was born in Munich-Pasing in 1963. I discovered my passion for numbers and organization at an early age, which led me to complete my training as a tax assistant and a qualified executive secretary. I was able to demonstrate these skills in my father's waterproofing and renovation company, where I worked as an HR manager and executive secretary. I also ran a small accounting service which helped me to further develop my skills.
My partner Walter was born in 1952 in St. Pölten in Lower Austria, but his real hometown is Salzburg, where our son lives with his family. Walter's passion for gastronomy began with his training at the renowned Grand Hotel Pittner in St. Pölten and attending the Bad Hofgastein hotel school. Years of travel have taken him both at home and abroad, including the MS Europa. After his return to Salzburg, he took over the management of the Muntenhammer restaurant. But after 20 years in gastronomy, he felt the need for a change and took a 20-year break in Munich.
During this time we got to know and love each other. My father's death made us realize that life is too short to put dreams on hold. So we dedicated ourselves to this new life task and fulfilled a childhood dream by buying Gasthof Gritschacher.
I fulfilled my dream of renting a small but nice private room and Walter's dream of reviving an old inn with tradition and reinterpreting food from around the world and the K&K monarchy with only local products.
